Sharing the story of the UK’S Silenced workforce

Migrant domestic workers are brought to the UK to work as cleaners, nannies and housekeepers in family homes. They make up 31% of the domestic workforce. Yet, most are without basic workers’ rights such as minimum wage or sick pay, many forced to work long hours in difficult conditions, vulnerable to abuse.

We created Our Place is Here to uplift the voices of migrant domestic workers and build solidarity. Through co-creation workshops, a feature documentary, digital and media partnerships, content creation including podcasts and social videos, a zine, and a program of events - we aimed to build community and shine a light on their stories with a wider audience.

After the project, 70% of domestic workers reported feeling ‘very supported’. Our audience had a 21% increase in being ‘very aware’ of migrant domestic workers experiences. The campaign For me personally, it was an honour to share the stories of some of the most inspiring women I have ever met.
